2023: A Year of Struggles and Triumphs
Even though how we help people takes many forms — from distributing food and household essentials to clean water and health programs, from community gardens to nutrition training to supporting local education and serving meals at school — children are always at the heart of our work.
In fiscal year 2023, the need was tremendous. So many families faced hardships, which meant we – with your help – had to expand our reach to make sure more children could dare to dream of a bright future.
Because of your commitment, nearly 15 million people in the U.S. as well as El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, Malawi, the Philippines, Tanzania and Uganda received help from Feed the Children. We distributed approximately 94.3 million pounds of food and essentials – which would fill 380 Boeing 747 airplanes.
Reaching as many vulnerable children in the U.S. as possible is hard work. With the help of our dedicated donors and our extensive network of corporate and community partners, we distributed more than 86.4 million pounds of food, essentials and other resources to children and families in 40 states.
Feed the Children’s five distribution centers are strategically located throughout the country as critical hubs to get food and other items out to those who need them the most. Last year, our U.S. distribution efforts helped more than 10 million people across the country. That’s more than 286 Empire State Buildings full of people!
Kids like 10-year-old Noah inspire us to keep doing this work. In fact, because he and his family received help from Feed the Children, he has future plans to give back too.
“Donors know how much families really need that help, and those donors deserve props for that,” Noah said with gratitude. “One day, when I’m older,” he continued, “I’m gonna make sure all the children are fed no matter what it takes. I’ll donate a million dollars if I have to, and that’s a promise I’m willing to make.”
More than just food or school supplies or household essentials, donors help us deliver the belief that tomorrow will be better, for kids like Noah, because someone cares. That gift can inspire a whole generation.
Our work doesn’t stop in the United States. Our international work reaches deep into the communities we serve — recognizing their needs, challenges, resources and potential.
In fiscal year 2023, our international programs provided food and other benefits to more than 4.7 million people in eight countries. We’re proud to have distributed an unprecedented 60.5 million meals this past year throughout the 192 international communities we serve.
For 11-year-old Kevin from the Philippines, education couldn’t be a priority after a devastating typhoon and the pandemic. With Feed the Children’s help, Kevin received nutritious meals at school, school supplies his family could not afford and extra tutoring sessions that boosted his reading comprehension skills. Kevin is now healthy, and he advanced to the sixth grade.
We are dedicated to a simple conviction: no child should experience hunger. And we are grateful that you believe that too — because you inspire our work on behalf of hungry children every day. Thank you!
